What pitch prop are you using? Maybe a different prop could help.

Sure.... as long as it came with a larger motor to turn it. ;) Not much to do to a 3.0L. Just maintain it and have fun.

Re: Outdrive upgrade

Changing the gear ratio to a higher numeric can only affect acceleration, but that'd screw up top end and bring the engine above it's operating range. Results: Bad and slower.

Going to a lower numeric would stifle acceleration and drop the top end down so much that you'd be lugging the engine, and losing top end. Results: Horrible and slower.

Your only real chance to play with 'gears' is to play with props/designs/sizes.

Re: Outdrive upgrade

I higher numeric ratio drive CAN get you a bit more speed in many cases... Because usually a higher numeric ratio drive than comes standard on most boats will get you into props that are a little better at turning torque into forward thrust. That's not always true, but is generally the case.

BUT you're already running the highest standard ratio and you have an engine that doesn't make a lot of power... just enjoy it...
