I have a 1990 25 hp johnson tiller handle , and i was wandering , how hot the water should be coming out the holes , when iam idleing around its kinda cold but after about 5 min. of fast speed its really warm almost hot but not to hot to keep my hand there is this normal

The correct place to check temp. is at the top of the block, or cylinder head. The tell-tale will be warm at full throttle.

do you have any idea of the stock thermstat degree is , it was a salt water , iam thinking maybe it needs a new stat

If it's been more than a couple of years used in salt, I'd replace the stat...

you should be able to hold you fingers on the top rear of the engine 3 to 4 seconds without undue pain..

stat should be a 143* and the tell tale water comes from the top of the ex cover/cyl head area and may be slightly warm when running as its already cooled the exhaust plate. the stat is located under the head water jacket cover and if its used in salt needs to be removed each year, sometimes if ya dont the bolts wring off.
