Here's what are wonderful state reps want to do to us:<br /><br /> http://www.mailtribune.com/archive/2003/0426/local/stories/03local.htm <br /><br />I'll stop buying if this happens. I have a family of 5. I love my hunting and fishing, but this is nuts.<br /><br />THEY WON'T GET MY MONEY!<br /><br />It's almost worth getting caught without one.<br /><br />They are also wanting a beer tax. Oregon is going to tax itself out of its people. I'm already thinking very strongly of moving out of here.<br /><br />H.

Move out while you still have money, before the government taxes it all away.

Wow thats stinks Homerr. Dont move to Pennsylvania. We have a governor that use's our tax money to build sports stadiums  They just passed a bill that would allow the shifting of the property tax dollars I pay for the local school to the schools in the city. My pop just moved out of Pa. because on a fixed income he could not keep up with the tax's.

Re: OUTRAGEOUS!

Scary thing here is that pretty soon there are not going to be any states left to move to that don't tax a person or family to death. GW wants a big tax cut and if he gets it, what would you bet the states raise taxes on anything they can think of to get some of the money that would normally go to the Feds? Even a small town levels it's getting bad. I live in a small community but my shop is down the road in another town. This town is trying to shove a school levy down the peoples' throat to build a new combined school. In the mean time, being mainly a steel town and the outlook for steel is still not the best, the economy is still not the best and getting worse. No jobs = people leaving the area to look for work. It would seem our elected officals wear blinders to situations like this. And yet they push for more levy/taxes. Beats the hell right outta me.

WoW!!! That is draconian, man! Now I know why so many tourists come down here, buy a place, brave the brutal summers and mosquitoes, and stay!!<br />Florida has it's share of socialists, but they are still in the minority, so we get a chance to stop such silliness at the ballot box (provided those counting said ballots can count)!!!!<br />Long live Jeb and George Bush

Thankfully, we still get to vote on a lot of taxes too. No income tax on retirement or Social Security payments, either. Property tax is one of lowest in nation. We have no control over sales tax, however, and that's up to 10%. Shows what the politicians would do if they could.

Re: OUTRAGEOUS!

Your post like a couple of repsones (in particular the one from PA and Rendell's folly) always stir my thoughts of Ayn Rand and "Atlas Shrugged". We continue to move toward a more and more overbearing government that takes more and more from the "producers" of society. The question that I have always struggled with is basically-"how far are the people going to be pushed" before revolution, or evolution toward a less intrusive overtaxing and overbearing government. With all of the state and local governments now setting off the distress flairs of economic disaster the question that I am forced to ask is this-"where in the f _ _ _ <br />is all of the money that you extorted from the tobacco companies?"

Re: OUTRAGEOUS!

mrmargaritaville, the tobacco money is gone, wasted on BS crap programs to buy votes. Remember, a politician's only job is to get re-elected, ever notice that with all the tax cuts we pay more and more, a lot is disguised as user fees, avoids the dirty word TAX. In NY every car owner was required to buy new license plates for thier vehicles, the official excuse was, "there are so many phony plates and unlicensed cars on the road we have to do this to eliminate the problem", duh, that should work for about a minute, it was just a fund raiser and the word TAX was never used. Just smoke and mirrors, and so it goes.

Re: OUTRAGEOUS!

Anybody ever heard the term "wanna play - gotta pay"?<br /><br />As a country, America is unequaled on the amount of money we spend on our roads, education, military ,including our veterans and yes, even those who are "less fortunate" than us.<br /><br />The money to fund the greatest society on earth, has to come from somewhere! Of course some of it is wasted, which need to be reduced.<br /><br />Sure, we pay "high" taxes, but ask our foreign friends how much they pay in taxes and what they get in return.<br /><br />It stinks that a hefty fishing license increase is going to the "general fund" (which is pretty common anymore) and may be worth fighting, but IMO, Americans get a pretty decent return on their tax investments.<br /><br />Marty

Re: OUTRAGEOUS!

Hi marty, yes we may get a better return on out tax dollars then third world countries give, but I work for the government, 30 years this month, believe me the return is minimal, the waste is outrageous. Example, during the gas crisis in the late 70's the US Gov printed a load of gas ration coupons with the likeness of George Washington, they were to have a value of about .35 cents per coupon per gallon, unfortunately the likeness was the same as the dollar bill and could be cashed in a dollar bill change machine, the profit was about .65 per coupon, so they couldn't issue then, In they went to storage until somebody figured what to do, the decison was to destroy them, total cost to print, store and destroy was about 400 million tax dollars. The list of waste goes on and on. Now, think about it, 400 million dollars is probably more money than all members of this iBoats forum will earn in the next 10 years, that kind of money could fund a lot of useful programs but it went up in smoke,,,,and so it goes. NEWS FLASH, just got the new Time magazine and I quote, "$22.5 Billion, estimated spending on PorkBarrel projects for fiscal 2003, a record high." And it's our/your money.

As far as I know all F&H license fees paid here go to fund the Wildlife department and any and all programs dealing with the outdoors. Not a penny goes into anything not related to the outdoors.

Re: OUTRAGEOUS!

I'm going to send our state rep an e-mail.<br /><br />I doubt it will do any good, but it will make me feel better.<br /><br />It will be interesting to watch the poaching stats go through the roof if they increase the fees.<br /><br />Oregon is flat broke, and now they are going to tax us for everything they possibly can.<br /><br />Anyone have a job opening OUT OF OREGON for a machinist? Must be close to the ocean! :) <br /><br />H.

Homerr, welcome to the machine  <br /><br />Other states need money too, so they are getting it everywhere they can. Recreation users are somewhat of a captive crowd, so sure they hit them up.<br /><br />My brother in Indiana says they are charging $26 per night at some state campgrounds.<br /><br />If your really enjoy the outdoors with your family, it might be best to gripe about it, pay up and then forget about it :p <br /><br />Marty

Hey Homerr,<br /><br />Here in NYC, they have a $6.00 tax on cigarettes and then they tell us we can't smoke them. <br /><br />NYC is trying to put in place a total ban on smoking in the city. <br /><br />Go figure.
