Hi everybody

i have a 7.4GIPWTR with a DP-S outdrive.
I replaced the steering ram( part numb. 3812269 ) 2 weeks ago because it was leaking and the boat was steering left over 3000 rpm.Once the steering ram was replaced i cleaned part of the bilge(the section under the engine). Now the issue..2 days ago i moved my boat to a new marina and i cruised for 3 hrs and 30 mins at aorund 23 kts...when i arrived and just before leaving my boat i checked the bilge again and i found some red oil mixed with water. I thought initially that it could have been the old one left from the previous steering ram stuck somewhere in the forward bilge( i have a monterey 262 cruiser) but now i am thinking that the new one may be broken as well!Any info/suggestion other than checking the quantity in the pump?
cheers

Did the fluid level in the reservoir go down?

We may be able to explain how to fix something, but the only way to find if something is leaking is for you to look at it and find the leak. we can't.

Hi Don

I Will certainly check the reservoir level tomorrow...checking the steering ram won't be easy with a big engine like mine,i can barely see where the steering ram is mounted...i will try my best! One more thing...if I move The steering wheel while the engine is off And Someone else Checks if the ram is leaking Could i risk to damage the steering ram since there's
No hydraulic power?
Thanks

It won't hurt anything at all. Matter of fact, that's how you bleed them. Engine off and turn wheel lock to lock several times, then start the engine.
Without the pressure from the power steering pump, it may not leak at all.
