Any idea of how long it would take to damage a 9.9 HP 4 stroke when the water pump fails ?
The reason for this question is that I should have replaced my water pump this year but I didn't realize it had been almost 3 years since I replaced it. Should it fail before the season is over I usually can sail back to port but it is handy to have the motor on to get the sails down and then dock. The last time my pump failed I believe the motor was on for about 5 minutes before I noticed it wasn't peeing and there wasn't any damage.

I don't think anyone could determine this in minutes but if it quits pumping water it wouldn't take more than ten I would think. It would depend on the engines RPM as well. My gut feeling is you should be O.K. if it's only three years old and has seen minimal use. Best of luck. Rick.
