I just bought a 85 bayliner capri with a force 125 motor and i took it out for the first time over this last weekend. Right off the bat as i was waiting for the truck parker to get back to the doc so i could pick him up and head out, the boat started buzzing. My first thought was that the impeller was on its way out because the previous owners did very little work on it being that they used it less then once a year. I ran the boat full throttle to see if i couldnt get it cooled down and the buzzer quit. It would only come back when i idled for prolonged periods of time when i was picking up skiers and so fourth. When i got home first thing i did was go out and buy an impeller. I disassembled the lower half of the motor and got to the water pump and got a look at the impeller. It didnt look all that bad. It was still in tact and fairly flexable. I put the new one in any way and it feels like my prop was more difficult to turn after i assembled the lower half. Then when i went to put the lower half back on the motor i could not get the shaft to line up for the life of me, i fought it for over an hour =(... One time i did get it to some what line up but it didnt fully sit flush and i wasnt about to just bolt it up and force it flush, cause i just dont like doing things that way. I have absolutley no expierience on outboard motors and found that the mannual i bought is less then great so far. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. If anyone has any atv questions thats my specialty so feel free to ask. Thanks Guys,

You made the right decision to change the impeller. These things can look great and still be bad. As far as getting the shaft to line up. THis is really a two person job have someone moving the flywheel just a little while you are pushing up on the lower unit as long as the shift linkage is lined up you should have no problems getting it in. For future reference you should not let your motor get hot enough to sound the buzzer, in hopes it will cool down later. Once you here the buzzer the damage is usally already done. Install a temp sensor or water pressure gauge so you can constatly monitor the situation.

I inspected the old waterpump housing a little further and saw that the seal was shot and also the wear mark from the impeller on the inside of the housing was slighty off-center. I just picked up a thermostat as well just in case. Do you really think i may have damaged my motor? It didnt seem to run any worse through out the day and id hate to think i did any damage internally. I got the lower unit back up and in "with the help of another person" So ive replaced the impeller and the housing and im swapping the thermostat today. Now you got me worried though saying that by the time the buzzer goes off ive already damaged the engine. Im going to run it today after i replace the thermostat is there any signs i might see that would tell me if ive done any serious internal damage? Thanks for the info even though you got me chopping at the bits now....=/ Hopefully i got lucky and didnt hose anything.

If you are worried you can do a compression check on your cylinders. If you damaged it that is where you will see it. I have had overheat conditions twice on my chyrsler and have not had any ill effects from it. Knock on wood
