Hello
I have a 1979 140 Hp 181 Mercruiser. I have already changed the head gasket, water pump in the foot including the impeller, the thermostat, and all the gaskets with the exhaust manifold. I have also changed out the battery cables and installed a new battery. My question is when I run it the engine slowly creeps up to the red on my gauge. I have checked the oil and it is not milky. I have re tighten the head bolts in order as to how they are suppose to be. I am running out of options!!!! Please some one help me! I am wondering if part of the impeller is somewhere in the engine? Put where would it be? The water is flowing great into the engine. It seems to be circulating well when it comes out the foot. Again thanks in advance!

Re: Over heating problem!

If the riser is a 1979 it probably needs to be replaced. It might look like it's pumping a lot but it could still be restricted.Jerry

Hello! Well I agree check riser.. Where are you running the boat.. Sometimes if you are running on flush muffs it will not get enough water.... check your setup.... Sounds like you have covered everything else..

Re: Over heating problem!

The riser fits on top of the exhaust manifold. There are water jackets all around the riser and the exhaust manifold to keep them cool. The water exits out through the riser and blows out the exhaust. If any of these water jackets get blocked it will not cool the exhaust enough and make your engine run hot.
