Hi Everyone- I Changed The Head Gaskets On My 1978 Johnson 85 A Couple Months Ago. I Had A Friend Who Suppose To Have Know About These Things Help Me. We Found A Couple Of Rubber Strip's Inside The Water Passage Chambers And Not Knowing What They Were, We Took Them Out! Turn's Out They Were The Water Passage Restrictor/divertor That Suppose To Help The Flow Of The Water To Cool Off The Block. I Found This Out After The Fact Now And Dont Know How To Replace Them? I Heard It Will Only Over-heat If We Run Her Wide Open? Actually I Have Ran Her Both Idle And Wide For A Couple Minutes Without Problem. I Dont Want To Push My Luck Though Unless It Really Wont Hurt Anything? Any Suggestion Out There Would Be Appreciated. Thanks James.

Yes, the OEM part number is 0322411; the aftermarket Sierra equivalent is 18-0892.
