2001 Crestliner super hawk 1600 with 70 evenrude 2001 4 stroke.
Just bout this boat, has a total of 36 hours. Don't know why but someone installed a dolfin and trim tabs, first time out when triming up at about 4k heat alarm comes on, took of dolfin and much better but still will over heat at about 4.2k. The transducer was also sitting about 1.5 inches below bottom of transom., I've removed the trim tabs but haven't tested yet. I've ordered a impellor, it was replaced 4 years ago however most likely not used. I'll be checking the thermostate and replacing the impellor soon. Thats problem number 1. The other problem I suspect is the tack is off, I can't get near 5k 4.3 is max running a 17 pitch prop, GPS says 30mph at 4.2 k which I don't think is possible (full tank of gas two passengers) I' just ordered a tiny inductive tack to check the on board tack. Any idea's on both problems. PS run so much better without the dolfin, if I drive about 25mph, trimmed up 3/4 throttle no problem.

Looks like your talking more about the Johnson motor than the boat, I'll move if that is the case.

New to you boat with overheating issues, yes replace the impeller and see if that solves that problem
