What scares you the most, an underused boat or one that has sky high hours?

On the one hand, a over used boat has gotten a good workout. None of the parts got a chance to dry rot or malfunction from lack of use. But is this boat on its last leg? Are the parts and components reaching the end of their life expectancy?

Conversely, if a boat is underused you?d have to ask yourself why. Is it because of some mechanical defect that was never addressed? Or is it because the owner simply lacked the time and inclination to utilize the boat properly?

All things being equal, which boat would you prefer to buy?

Motors need to be run and benefit from use. However, hulls and trailers don't benefit from use, and are harmed when it's a trailer dunked below the hubs in salt water often.
An underpropped engine can gat old before its time--run a 5000 rpm outboard at 6000 and it's like an hour of use for every minute.
So it's not all that simple--like all "rules" of boating.

Depends on the boat.
