"Do not post repair related questions in this forum" are we told. Yes, it's a non-repair forum.
BUT
I think the "Johnson & Evinrude Outboard Troubles/Repair" forum has become to big. There are 32900 topics and 165346 posts this very moment and it's a tidal wave of topics and posts.
If you post a topic, the next moment it has disappeared under 30 new ones to the following page and became an old topic.
Can it be a good idea to split the "Troubles/Repair" forum into old and modern.
Or another forum. "Classic outboards", "old clunkers", "The under-15hp-club", "old farts"
or whatever.

Re: Overgrown forum

It sure is busy this time of year, but in the winter it's pretty quiet. The trick to getting a good response is a good topic title. For example, I passed your "Johnson with no spark" because that could be any number of engines - and likely one I don't know anything about. The best is to put your HP/Year in the title like: "1958 10hp spark problem" or something. Even "Old Johnson with no spark" would get better responses.

If you post a trouble/repair topic here it will be moved, kkj.

Paul's advice is golden, particularly at this season. Your topic title should attract people who have expertise and interest in that problem on that engine. I cannot go by a topic like, "CD-20 wont go to WOT"

The worst topic title is "HELP!!!". With 40-50 topics to choose from it is the one most likely to be passed up.

"If you post a trouble/repair topic here it will be moved, kkj."

I know, I know, I did it by mistake, and you did move it, just like that, which was good.

The advice about the title is of course right. Next time you see: "QD-19, Seahorse, 1958 etc.", Look up!

Re: Overgrown forum

i agree with advice on the topic title.

but he has a point. as these outboard forums increase, separating the big ones by hp may not be a bad idea. or 2-stroke and 4-stroke. something to think about jb.

Re: Overgrown forum

Well, it's not a bad idea to break up the bigger forums, perhaps, but will probably end up with folks still posting in the wrong places.

I know that my interest wanes on outboards newer than about 1965, but where would you draw the line between classics and modern?

Besides, a lot of people who come here for help haven't a clue about the year of their outboard.

Paul is certainly right about info in the thread title, though. Put RDS-anything in the title, and I'm there.
