Hi,

351 Ford Windsor (Volvo Penta AQ240A, with a 280 Outdrive)

While cruising the South Bay San Francisco at 3,000 RPM. I suddenly felt a tug toward starboard and then engine began running rougher and rougher until it made a few Poping sounds and died (about 2 minutes after the tug). It had overheated in a very fast manner. I was running at 170 degrees, after it died the gauge read over 200. After checking the oputdrive intake I scrapped severall hundred banicles off and let the engine cool, was able to restart and cruise home not exceeding 1400 RPM. Stopped and started it 3 times after never getting too high onthe RPM's and the engine sounded normal and ran cool. I am presuming that something covered the intake.

I need to know if there is a way to install a overheating sound device to notify me of an overheating problem. Something where if the engine exceed 180 it will alarm me. Can anyone tell me how create and install one. There are a lot of things to watch on the bay and when there is overheating so fast sometimes your not looking exactly at the gauge.
Thanks in advance.

Carden
