Im on the lake. I had my over heat horn go off for a second. I took it back off plane and now I don't have water coming out of the spickets when I go back on plane. Is this normal operation?

spickets? What is the make and model/hp of your engine and preferably a pic of what you are calling spikets.

No it's not normal.
The one or two holes in the mid section should have water comming out at all times while in the water.
Change the impeller.
Anytime the buzzer goes off it means you need to worry.

Profile,location?Salt water?

Re: overheat/normal operation of water outlets

Here are my findings:
First off it's a 77 Chrysler 90hp outboard. When we got home from the lake I pulled the lower unit. I flushed it first and as usual I had very little flow out of the two holes on the aft of the motor just below the cowl. The tiny hole on the right side by the lower unit fill screw sprays water out with a nice horizontal stream. That is how it has always flushed for me. Ok so my lake trip went ok I took it very easy and never got on plane. I took apart my impeller and found no discrepancies (impeller only has maybe 5 hours on it) impeller is good, housing isn't cracked, snout connection piece going to metal tube is good and was replaced with impeller. My question is does the two holes below cowl hood suppose to squirt water at planing speed? Mine actually has suction on plane. At idle or fwd low speed with water level high on motor they spray hot water. Some water some air. I need normal operation characteristics. It seems to me that after looking these may just spray when water pressure prevents water and exhaust from exiting from the snout by the prop. True or False? Also my buzzer only went off only once right after we got to lake and I idled for a while then took off and got on plane. Buzzer extinguished after I cut throttle. It never went off again and I took it easy and then today even easier due to a spun prop.:( All and all we didn't have to be towed and still stayed the whole time. Any insight would be great. Thx Mitch

Re: overheat/normal operation of water outlets

The hole/s out the back is a pressure relief port.
It allows excess water pressure/exhaust out the back.
The base of the powerhead, port side is a small plug held in by 2-5/16headed screws(DON"T REMOVE).
It the pressure relief spring and plug.It could be stuck.
The pump pushes way more water than the motor can use.The PRS works to relieve this pressure.
If your system isin't working right,no flo then it might be stuck.
As far as no water at speed.I'd start looking at the problem.
Mine works at all speeds.
The snout idea is wrong. The exhaust pressure will go out the snout no mater the pressure.
In fact the water going by the snout would even draw it unless the snout was on backwards.
