I have a 60 hp 94' 2 stroke oil injectd outboard. At random the sensor will go off, and it is a constant beep. I replaced the thermostat and it helped for a while, this past weekend it sounded again i took the thermostat out and cleaned the poppet valve and it did not help, the whole time it would beep with the ignition on and motor off. approx 4 hrs later i turned the ignition on and it was still beeping. the following day everything was fine! The motor is peeing good, the motor is not hot to touch and the heat gun give me a readin between 105 and 115 on all 3 cylinders, any suggestions? on what the most likely fault is?

thanks in advance

Re: overheat sensor!

I believe that the low oil sensor is on that same circuit. It could be the problem and not the temp sensor.

Re: overheat sensor!

if im understanding u right, u r saying that the over heat warning is within the same module that the oil warning is in

Re: overheat sensor!

Disconnect the high heat lead and see if it is still beeping. If the oil reservoir has oil, and your oil float isn't stuck, I would suspect the oil/high heat module.

On my 91 100hp merc/mariner it is. It's easy to see it on the schematic if you have a manual. Mine sounds briefly when I turn the key on. The owners manual say's that is by design. My temp sensor and low oil sensor are both connected to the module.

OK there is a secondary warning beeper under the console, I checket the l0ow oil sensor and it is working fine and the temp switch is working as well, has anyone ever had the low oil module go bad?

Yes, the oil alert module can go bad.

To isolate the problem, disconnect the oil alert output, and the overtemp sensor wires from the common screw high and aft on the starboard side of the engine. The third wire goes into the harness, and to the alarm buzzer. Then connect them back one at a time and see which one is setting off the alarm.

If it's the oil alert, and it makes any noise before the engine starts, other than the diagnostic beeps, it's bad. If the diagnostic beeps are missing, it's bad also.

No fault should set it off until the engine is running, including the low oil level switch.

Hope it helps
John
