Unfortunatley, I got into an argument with some seaweed and blocked the water intake on my 270 outdrive. Before I could get it back to idle the water temp almost pegged. I cleared the seaweed and the temp read normal. The problem after that is the engine will run only at low RPMs. When I tried to advance the throttle the engine stumbled and sputtered and almost stalled. It took a long time to back to port. Does that sound like a head gasket? Does the head gasket tend to blow after over-heating on the aq125? Any thoughts would be appreciated. This was a great running engine, until now.

The head gasket would blow if you ran really hot for a sustained period of time. But if it was only for a minute, highly unlikely. I would check timing and t/a to see if they are in spec, not running at a higher rpm isn't caused by a brief moment of overheating.
