overheated pt2

Well I changed the entire water pump,base,plate impeller and gaskets in my merc 500 serial number 4417140,1977.This was after an overheating incident that I posted about before.There was no tattle tale stream flowing in the first incident.After changing the impeller and backing it into the water and running it she peed fine and I thought "problem solved".I changed the entire pump after for my piece of mind.I used a manual and followed it step by step.<br />I took it to the water for a spin to test it out and after starting it started peeing fine.When I got under way the stream lessened,stopped,flowed,steamed,pettered and did about everything but flow constantly.<br />The motor would get hot at higher rpms and stop flowing and steam,at idle it would cool and sometimes flow and peter out,spit and sometimes nothin'.Totaly intermittent.With the little flow at higher rpms sometimes when I would throttle back it the stream would surge and flow well then peter out again as she idled or ran at lower speed.<br />Any ideas on my water flow/cooling problem?<br />thanks,<br />Damon

did you put the impeller bak in in the right direction?

I think so,I followed the derictions in the manual.From memory(I am in an internet cafe and do not have the book with me),I put the impeller on the shaft with the keeper in place,put the lubed housing on the shaft and turn the shaft clockwise while pressing down on the housing.<br />Damon
