Hi , I have twin Mercruiser 1986, 260 motors. One motor runs at 145 degrees , never climbs above that. The other motor at idle climbs up to about 185 degrees. But if I increase rpm's , the temp comes down to about 150 degrees. I am not in the water yet, I am running these guys on muffs. New impeller and new thermostat. Do I have a problem or the beginning of a problem.

thanks

Drew

Re: Overheating Maybe

Getting hot at idle and cooling when the revs increase is usually a sign of a bad impeller, but since you said they are new..... did you do the replacement? Maybe (just offering it out there, please don't be offended) something still isn't right with the impeller...

Re: Overheating Maybe

Maybe not the impeller itself, but something in that area.

Have you watched my water pump video? Plenty of tips and tricks in there...

Re: Overheating Maybe

" Stupid Human Tricks ". With that said I fix it; for those who are interested. When I replace the impeller there is a tube that goes from the lower unit to the upper unit of the outdrive. This supply's water to the engine. At the top of this tube there is a rubber bushing . I crushed it , so it was partially blocking coolant flow.

a big duh

thanks for the replies, appreciate it
