Hi, After a day of fishing I go to flush my 1996 Yamaha 150 hp engine.Little did I know that my garden hose had a kink in it.I started it up and proceeded to mess with my canvas until I heard the warning buzzer go off and noticed the engine smoking bad.I shut it off and cursed up a storm.I found the kink and restarted it and it seems to be fine.I'd say it ran about 5 minutes on idle with no water.Other than damaging the water pump is it likely that I did any other long term damage? Thanks

Re: overheating question

most likly not at an idle.
I would replace the water pump and carefully inspect the pump housing for any signs of melt, any sign of melt will require a new housing.
with the engine cold retorque the cyl head bolts and check the tightness of the exhaust cover bolts. dont twist the cover bolts off.
