I have a 1997 Regal Destiny 200 with a Volvo Penta 4.3 and I have a problem with overheating but only when the boat is in the water or I hook up ears to the out drive. If I run/flush from the hook up on the transom it runs great and does not overheat. I replaced the raw water pump assembly and thermostat with housing. Suggestions?

Re: Overheating

Sounds like your pump is not pulling a prime. The hose will give it positive pressure, eliminating the requirement to pull a prime.
I am assuming you have an SX drive? If so then try blocking off the raw water pump outlet and pressurising the leg with muffs and look for leaks on the leg and inside the boat.

Re: Overheating

I had a similar problem with my merc 4.3 liter. after replacing the impeller and thermostat, it turned out to be a kinked hose in the lower unit. I assume it got twisted when the mechanic put the lower unit back on after replacing the impeller. all seems to be well now... knock on wood.

You were absolutely right, I followed your test and found a leaking hose. Boat is ready for the water again. Thanks for the help.
