Overspeed Warning

Hi guys,

I have just treated myself to a one year old Regal 2550 with a 350 mag.
When I accelerate to get on the plane I get a continuous alarm at 3800rpm which stops when I go down to idle.
The engine is still under warranty and I had my local Mercruiser guy check the codes but could only find that it had given the overspeed warning. He cleared the fault codes and said to try again but the problem persists.
He said he will look at it again next week but I was hoping someone could give me a clue what it might be to save time.

Thanks in advance,

that engine is likely 4400-4800 rpm designed.....clearing fault codes does not find the problem.. Ive got a 30 year old Mercruiser,, new ones??? dunno.. computer chip error likely....

It could simply be a bad sensor. If it is under warranty make them fix it. If they have to they can run the scanner on it as it is going to see the live data.

Sucks you have to wait a week to let them fix it under warranty.

check your tach against an optical tach on the motor.
