overweight boat?

Well, I have a question for all the experts here!!!
I got the weight of my boat yesterday! Bad news,
Total weight was 8420
Subtract truck (curb weight), passengers, fuel (both boat & truck) and equipment = 3325 lbs.

Documentation from fourwinns says the boat should weigh 2200 lbs. Could a single axle trailer weight 1100 lbs.? Or does my boat need to go on a diet??

Re: overweight boat?

That's probably the hull weight un-rigged without the motor. Add a motor (outboard or I/O with drive) fuel, controls and it adds up. Do you trust the weighing method? If you ask a DOT person in your area they have drive on scales....use 3 and drive the wheels on two and disconnect the trailer onto the third....or get the boat and traier weight alone on a scale then weigh the empty trailer.

Bob

Re: overweight boat?

Thanks for the tips...

I am not sure if i should be confident in the scale, I went to the local landfill's drive on scale so i have no idea when it was last calibrated.

According to 4winns the 2200 lbs boat weight includes all rigging and motor/stern drive.

Getting the trailer on the scale without the boat would be tough! I guess i could weigh just the truck and get a bit closer though.

What do you think the average weight for a single axle, no brakes, steel, bunk trailer is? Its a Shoreline so i can't exactly call the mfg to get the info and the info sticker on the front left has worn off.

Re: overweight boat?

Why not uncouple the boat/trailer on the scale and do it alone.

Bob

Re: overweight boat?

i have an 89 eagle bunk trailer, single axle for my 19 ftr. it weighs i think 1000. lbs. so the weight sounds about right for yours. your trailer wt. should be on the state reg. tag.

Re: overweight boat?

Bob,
There was a very long line at the dump that day, so did not want to be rude but i will call and see when the slow times are and try that! Thanks.

Sea Wolf,
Thanks, your trailer weight has given me hope! I looked at the state reg, no weight there, but i will try the title!
