Overweight?

I have a 1985 Gator Bass Boat. The previous owner had a hole for a seat in the floor that went all the way down to the foam. We just bought the boat a couple of weeks ago. Everything is ok with the 50 hp evinrude thats on it, and the prop is right. We're thinking that maybe the foam got saturated with water because the boat will not go over 10 mph. Could it be THAT saturated that it would weigh the boat down that much? IF SO, is there any way to dry out the foam?

Re: Overweight?

take a 1 inch piece of pvc pipe, cut some teeth in one end. use the existing hole, and screw the pipe into the foam. then push the core out. that will tell you what's there. you may want to use a 2 inch hole saw and drill for a couple of more test holes. if wet, plan a floor replacement. and tear the foam out. no way to dry it.

Are you sure the motor is "ok"? It sounds like you might only be running on one cylinder. Even a saturated boat should go a bit faster than that...
