Firstly, i'm new to this forum and just wanted to say "HI" :)
secondly, I've just bought my 1st boat and as such am quite new to boating.
I have a 2005 Bayliner with a Mercruiser MCM 3.0 135HP(I don't know the S/N)
Unfortunatly the pervious owner didnt have the owners manual and I can't seem to find anything relating to this year engine online. There is no fault at present, but as prevention is better than rectifacation i'd like to get my hands on an informative manual for reference and education purposes.
Obv a free download would be preferential, but this is not an area to penny pinching on and paying for it isn't an issue. I need an online version as I cant have things mailed to me (Thailand post! haha)
The best I have found so far seems to be a manual by SELOC MARINE.
Is this any good? Or does anybody have any better suggestions?
Many Thanks

Re: Owners manual advice

Welcome to the group!

Are you looking for an owners manual or a service manual? They're two different things. The engine/drive owners manual would give you basic information on routine operation of the system, as well as instructions on basic maintenance- changing engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, outdrive lube- basics like that.
A service manual goes into great detail on how to tear down and replace/rebuild things that go beyond routine maintenance- they are essentially guidebooks for the service techs.

You might be able to get an owners manual from Mercury for a modest fee, or try searching online. That'd be for your power train.

Service manuals are more expensive, especially the Mercury ones.

And that only covers your powertrain. There is also likely an owners manual for your boat- which doesn't cover specific drivetrain things, more a users guide for the boat in general. How the controls work, using the lights, bilbe pump, things like that. The boat maker usually provides those, so maybe Bayliner can get you that if you want one.

I don't find my boat owners manual particularly useful. I find my powertrain owners manual quite useful, and I do my own wrenching so my service manual is also quite handy.

Which are you looking for?

Hi, and welcome....
i wouldn't bother with an owners manual, if that's what yer looking for. anything ya find in that can be found or answered here.

as for the service manual. get an original mercruiser book. or in pdf if ya can find it. most of the pdf stuff is not found online much anymore due to copy write. however ya may be able to get the drive part. you'd want 14 if ya got a alpha1 genII... http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/srvcovr.pdf i don't know which one ya need for your engine (could be 26 but i'm not sure about that). your local mercuriser dealer will know though (via s/n). once ya figure out which one. ya can either get it from mercruiser or there's always ebay. i've gotten 2 off ebay. used but work just fine. if ya gotta bite the bullet and get one from mercruiser, so be it. it'll be the best $100 ya spent on your boat and the best tool in your tool box..

probably avoid the seloc or clymers books. the word around this forum is they make good knee pads. they are vague and leave you guessing compared to the oem book which has the facts in it per mercruiser, specifically for your application..

Re: Owners manual advice

Hey, Thanks for the advice, I guess im looking for the service/repair manual, im quite hands on and can figure out things like oil/filter changes and routine maintenence without assisstance, I guess i'm looking for something to reference when it come to fault finding. Post here isn't really an option as everything goes missing, I do belive there is a mercruiser mechanic somewhere on the island so maybe they can help arrange sourcing this, otherwise i'll keep scouring the internet :)

A Seloc manual would be better then nothing, but not by much. There is a lot of confusing information and left out steps.

Re: Owners manual advice

Thanks for the help, very much appreciated.
I found this serial number on the engine 0w043698
Does this sound about right for that manual?

Re: Owners manual advice

You have a 4.3 with a balance shaft so the manual I provided is fine for most of it. Looks like you have MPI. Im not sure if the manual covers that...
