Ownership History

Hi,
Is there a way to check the ownership history of a boat? I'm specifically looking for contact information for the owner before me. I have some maintenance questions to ask. Of course, he told me a million things about the boat when I bought it, but that was 9 months ago... I need a refersher. I'm also curious about the history of the boat.

Anyway... Will the DMV provide a registration history? Is there a carfax service for boats? Any other options?

There is such a thing as a boat history report available online, but this is very basic and only provides the location of registration in the past. You can get this for $35. You can try with the state for registration information, it is public information. If they give you any grief you could technically submit a freedom of information act request to them which requires them to give you this information under most circumstances.
