As mentioned in an earlier post about 0x66 lower unit I have one that is knocking after a pump kit install. I found the slip collar was crack and replaced it as well. I hammered the outer collar down over the inner collar until it would go now further without damage. I did notice wear on the drive shaft a few inches above the pump. It was inconsistant wear on what looks like a seal journal. The wear was actually just a polished area on the shaft, not material worn away. Can some one explain the knocking cuased by the slip collar? Or do I have another problem? It an 150 ox66 2003

Re: OX66 Lower UNIT knocking aftewr pump change

while the gear case is back off look very carefully in the midsection just above where the water pump tube is.
your indicating a 25" shaft motor which uses a steady bushing.
corrosion sometimes eats the bushing.
you almost made all the steps by the book.
the one you missed is to PULL UP on the shaft while seating the collar assy.
keeps the shaft from bouncing at ilde and goink knock.
:)
happens all the time to the mobile guys around here.
