OX66 sub oil tank not filling

The secondary oil tank on my '98 OX66 200 HP doesn't always fill (even though the main tank is full of oil) and when the level reaches the lower limit, alarms go off and the engine goes to idle speed.

The override switch will fill the tank and then it's fine for the rest of the day.

Replaced the oil pump and still the mechanic can't figure out the problem. Any suggestions or known fixes?

Bernieb:

This is a terrific article and addresses all the components that I need to diagnose. I had no idea the system was so complex. Many thanks, I think I can now solve my problem.

The two most common causes of this problem are a defective sensor in the engine mounted tank or a wiring connection between the two tanks. The article or a search here should give you the trouble shooting info you need.

Thanks, Ray. I really like the engine and this is the only nagging problem. I've had some wiring problems (it's a long story) so I'll make this part of the diagnosis. Many thanks to you and Bernieb. .
