After reading Mark42's way of gelcoat repair for a very long time I decided to give it a try. I scrubbed the oxidized gelcoat with the comet and green scrubber pads then hit it with rubbing compound and a machine. After that I polished and waxed it by hand. WOW, what great results. If you look at the first photo not only is it ugly but you can see where there used to be a stripe at the bottom. In the second photo the area where the stripe was is nearly invisible. My boat looks great! Thanks Mark42.

RC,
Really nice! I'm tackling a similar project shortly. Can you give me a detail run down how you went about doing this? What type of rubbing coumpound and wax did you you use afterward. Thanks.

Looks fantastic. I just got done redoing my boat and it didn't come out nearly as good. I'll try what you said.

Got rid of my oxidation a lot easier - used vertiglass. Wasn't sure t would do the job, but almost 2 years now and still looking good.

Nightvision, I used comet cleanser and green scrubbing pads and just went for it! My boat's an '86 and was pretty bad, I wasn't to concerned about making it worse! I used lots of water while scrubbing and when through rinsed the surface. After dry I used a machine buffer with 3M super duty rubbing compound followed by 2 applications of Meguirs boat and rv polish followed by a single coat of Meguirs boat and rv wax. I'll probably get another coat of wax on this weekend. It looks great and we'll see how long it'll last!
