I saw an episode of Ship Shape TV where a T-top fabricator painted the aluminum welds with an aluminum looking paint to cover the heat discoloration.

I am currently refinishing a 1978 boat that has chrome railings and fittings. The rails themselves are fine, but the mounting pieces (standouts or something like that) are in rough shape. Many have lost most of their chrome plating. These are chrome over brass fittings. I have checked into getting them replated, but I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative. Probably not, but I thought I would ask. Could these things be painted with a shiny chrome like paint?
