I have a 1988 Crestliner that I am repainting. I am new to this and have read many different things about paint.

What is Gluvit? Do I need it if the boat doesnt leak?

What is Easpoxy? Is it a paint?

Lots of threads on Rustolium. When I go to purchase, there are many different options of paint. How do I choose.

I am looking for a good primer and finish coat.

Please advise

Re: Paint help......

Welcome to iBoats!

I assume this is an aluminum Hull. Most important part of painting a tin boat is the primer. You MUST use a self etching primer on it or the paint WILL NOT ADHERE!!! That being said here is my two cents...

What is Gluvit? Gluvit is an epoxy sealant for aluminum and you do NOT need it if your hull is not leaking. Kinda pricey, but you could coat the inside of your hull with it if you wanted to insure that you would NOT have any leaks.

Easypoxy is a 1 part epoxy paint made by Pettit paints. VERY good marine paint used by many iBoat posters. iBoats sells it!!!!

Paint choice is totally up to you. Cost, durability, ease of use etc... all go into the decision. You will get 1000's of opinions both pro and con.
Success and Horror stories from all of em. You HAVE to make the decision.
So my two cents, If it's a trailered boat, not in the lake more than 8 hours at a time, not being BEACHED alot, good pads and rollers on the trailer, then Easypoxy would be my choice HANDS DOWN! Rustoleum would be a Close 2nd. But I AM a tight wad sun of a gun! :D

Good Luck!!!!
