I did a search but couldn't find anything on this (not to say it's not there, but I might have missed it) but can you paint over 3M 5200? I think I saw a post that you can paint over gluvit, right? I want to rhino line by aluminum boat bottom and I would hate to spend 50 bucks on two tubes of 5200 only to find out the paint will not adhear.

WHY? Why rhino liner? It will exceed the cost of gluvit and make future repairs a nightmare. If you go with black it absorbs heat and gets hot.

There have been reports of separation between bed liner and hull.

$50 for two tubes of 3m5200...... you need to shop around. That is a rip off.... it is usually $10-12 per tube ...... what are your plans for the 5200?

he probably means the caulk gun cartridges of 5200,

5200 takes paint ,
but 5200 being semi flexible and paint being rigid if theres any movement the paint will crack.

Yea, sorry Bob VT, I was looking at the caulking gun tube price. I guess you talked me out of the rihno liner. My wife said the same thing about heat absoption and I thought of it too but I guess I didn't think about it to hard. I was going to use the 5200 on some seams/rivits on the stern that would be hidded by wood decking and I was going to paint over the hull area that the 5200 would be applied to it to keep it clean.

BTW - Does Gluvit dry clear or does it have a tint?

Sorry guys if some of my up comming questions may seem remedial but I'm new at this and I gotta start some place right? Thanks for your help and for putting up with any more of my questions.

Gluvit dries to a sort of amber color. If you look at this Completed Project in post #21 http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=325768 you will see the gluvit being applied.

The single downside is gluvit does not have uv protection and should not be exposed to sunlight without some sort of paint or decking to cover it. The smallest can will do a big boat since it is only used on rivets and seams.
