Re: paint removal

I use fiberglass safe strippers on fiberglass, sand wood. Use a grit that does as little damage to substrate as possible while removing paint. It will save a little work later.

Absolutey not even, that is if it was mine, Take a little time to safely remove the exisiting paint, the actual painting is child's play compared to what you are doing now. What i am saying is the work you are doing now should be as careful and detailed as you can be, it will be the foundation of your final paint job and effect it's beauty greatly.

I cant imagine how tough a paint could be to stand up to a 80 grit sand paper?

If it's starting to come off on it's own, then a pressure washer may take off most of it.

On fiberglass or wood boat? A heat gun and some scraping might help. 36 grit will leave you with ton's of finish work.

Re: paint removal

well before you guys have visions of me grinding up a nice silky smooth boat this is not the case. lol its a rough glass finish with mat BY FAR from the finish of a molded piece. 80 grit gets chewed up every 6 inches . thanks for the tips ill continue on with the 80.
