I have no idea what kind of paint was used but im guessing it wasnt a quality paint ??? and sanding would be a pain becouse of the rivets !!!
Thanks for any help ! William

Re: paint removal

You might call any of your local paint stores to see what thery might recommend. Most of those people are knowledgeable!

Aircraft stripper. Lowes/HD should have it.

For the easiest removal, you need something with methylene chloride in it, preferably a gel type. In my experience, the eco-friendly stuff just doesn't cut it. Home Depot or Lowe's or the like will have it. I'm about to do some of that myself as soon as it warms up. I have some Klean Strip Strip-X ready to go, think I got it at HD.

Re: paint removal

william66,
i removed my bottom paint with zinsser. there is one that can be used with boat paint. it worked well, however there is a yellowish base on the aluminum that wouldnt come off with the paint remover. it comes off with acetone, and alot of elbow grease. does anyone know of a easier way to remove this?
it took 2 aplications and one touchup aplication to get all areas of paint off.

DO NOT REMOVE THAT COATING!! unless your intention is to polish the aluminum. That coating is critical and is the alodine treatment. Please read the two sticky posts on top of this forum.
