Hey guys, I am going to paint my chieftain, white!:D I would like to know what kind of paint to use , auto etc. I am going to spray the paint and also how many coats and would numerous clear coat help. Thanks, Donnie:)

Check out the resto section. There have been great results using rustoleum with a hardener and you will get the same gloss without the clear coat

Skip the clear coat. It will just make touch-ups in the future more difficult.

If it was mine, I'd thoroughly sand it and hit any bare spots with etching primer. Only a light coat of that is needed. Then I'd hit it with primer and paint from either Rustoleum or Valspar (tractor supply).

I used PPG straight to metal primer followed by a single stage PPG acrylic enamel. I took most of the boat to mare metal and got really good adhesion with the PPG products. It was expensive though...$200 for a quart of primer and $400 for the gallon of paint. The hardner and reducer where included in that cost. I am not sure if that is always the case.

I painted a BW one time w/ Awl Grip. that stuff is fantastic, Kept it glossy shine the entier time i owned the boat and was very hard to scratch...
