Paint

Getting ready to paint my outdrive with antifouling paint , it has been painted before , do I really need the special primer or can I just scuff it up ?

Ayuh,..... Everything I've seen, says No antifouling paint goes on the drive, only the hull,.....

Outdrives need anti-fouling if used/kept in salt water.

I don't do much prep work year-to-year on the outdrives other than pressure wash and knocking of the few barnacles. . . . pretty much paint over what is there.

BTW - I use Trilux 33 in the quart cans. The spray version is pretty useless
