Looking for tips...

Paint the LEAST amount of the drive as you can. You will hardly be able to duplicate the factory's finish and make it last. Not without spending a fortune. So if you have a spot here or there, Rustoleum them.

I agree with rick3452... Mercruiser gloss black works great... for appearance and adhesion. I get about 2 years out of a paint job. I guess the downside is that it's at least twice the price of Rustoleum

For the outdrive, it all depends on where your boating. Also do you leave it in the water or trailer? Trilux products are good. If your really going to do it right, this might be a good thread to read. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...7MWVAw&usg=AFQjCNFtjxMP3RaVsoTwqJ_v6TsBr8A0lg

All that being said I used OEM original color top coat found on ebay. Stay away from paints that have copper in them, doesn't mix well with aluminum..

I have had the best results with ROLL ON Rustoleum. Rough it up, grit depends on how bad it looks now...use a very very fine foam roller, and give it it's time to dry. If you are in fresh water, it'll last forever. I had the boat in a slip for 6 months and it looked identical when I pulled it out.

I was hoping to touch mine up in the spring. Please tell me I dont have to remove the outdrives. Are there any area's specifically I should cover and keep paint off?
