While doing my transom replacement this weekend I was thinking this may be a good time to paint the splash well and the transom while the motor is off. I plan to paint the whole boat next spring but I would rather not pull the motor again. The boat is painted already but the paint is stained and has pin holes. Some areas that had silicone on them are sanded down to bare aluminum and other areas that were welded are bare aluminum. How should I go about painting this and what paint should i use?
My current thought.
Lightly sand the whole area.
wash with TSP
Prime with Rustoleum Professional metal primer (Rust-Oleum Professional 15-oz. Professional Flat Gray Aerosol Primer-7582838 at The Home Depot)
Paint with Rustoleum High Performance enamel gloss white. (Rust-Oleum Professional 15-oz. Professional Gloss White Aerosol Paint-7592838 at The Home Depot)
I did this process on my radiators in my house and the finish was great and seems very durable. Im just not sure about marine use on aluminum.
