Automotive supply stores have tape in any size you need.

yeah 1/8 - 1/4 " is best You can make your own using masking tape and a razor knife. Lay it flat on a table clamp the knife down until you get the proper alignment then spin it against the blade. I've had good results doing this.

Picking up fine line tape from an automotive paint supply store is easier

I'm curious as to the longevity of this paint? Does it scratch off? How do you prep the vinyl? Just curious....

This is my first time painting vinyl. It is an easy process, the paint dries really quick and the vinyl is still very soft. One member mentioned 3-5 years and I am happy with that. He also mentioned that it may scratch. See post 18 of this thread for prep info:

Fine line tape is VERY pricey!!! My O'Reillys has it but when I went to buy some it was $20 bucks for 60 yds of 1/8". Being a COB I decided to make my own since I didn't need 60 yds of it. If Price isn't a consideration then it IS very nice tape and seals the substrate very well so paint doesn't bleed under it and it won't life the dried paint off either. The Tan colored masking tape sticks well but will lift the paint IF you don't take it off within a minute or two after spraying it.

I did check on O'Reilly's and saw the tan colored tape. The 1/4" stuff is only $4.49. Good to know that it needs to come off very soon after painting. Luckily the paint I am using dries really fast and I can remove normal painters tape within a few minutes. I'll make sure I pull off the tan colored one in less than a minute. You are right aobut the fine line stuff being really pricey. Must be some really good tape!!

They have the 3M 1/4" x 60 yards tan tape #6330 and 6mm X 55 Meters 3M Green tape #26344. 6mm is just a hair over 1/4" and both are only $4.49.

I used it on all my combing pads this past spring. They were white with lots of nastly mold/mildew stains. I cleaned them thoroughly with Simple Green then went over them with Duplicolor's spray pre-painting cleaner then sprayed them all white with Duplicolor's vinyl paint which I got at Autozone very reasonably priced. It held up great all season. There's like a small rubbed off spot from some sunscreen or something but overall I'm very pleased. I don't know they I used it to change the color of your vinyl because then any issues or failures would be really noticeable.

Good to hear that it lasted at least one season. I am hoping it will last 3 or more seasons. I do keep the boat under a carport so that should help. My vinyl is an off white and I am using bright white SEM paint. Posted some more pics yesterday. http://forums.iboats.com/forum/boat-...27-vinyl-color
