painting my aluminum boat

i want to paint my aluminum boat but i'm not sure the process in doing so. the boat already has a coat of paint on it. any info would be great.<br /><br />jscotty

any bare al. has to be primed with zinc chromate<br />primer. sand the old paint a bit and just roll<br />and tip a new coat on. I like the "petit" line<br />of paints, but there are lots of choices. some<br />can be over $100/gal. if you keep it in the water<br />and want anti-fouling bottom paint, make sure u<br />get one made for al., reg. bottom paint has copper<br />and will react to al.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

Good luck with the project if you go to the "project boat" forum and dig in the archives there is more information than you will ever need about painting aluminum boats. I used Interlux on my 76 18ft Starcraft folowing a slightly more detailed version of the instructions above and even though I'm a lousy painter got a decent finish
