I have a Tower that has been on the boat since 03. On certain area's the finish has come off. Tried metal polish and it takes off the oxidation but does nothing for the finish. Can I paint this with an aluminum paint? Maybe a high temp paint? Need to know what grit to sand as well. All help appreciated, thanks

Re: Painting My tower

Clean it with a "scotch bright" and polish with "Mother" aluminium polishing stuff.

Yeah tried that all it did was make the wear stand out even more. Thanks for the suggestion though

My buddy had his power coated (maybe that is the same thing recommended above) and it has held up great everywhere except where the tow rope attaches.

Re: Painting My tower

I have polished some aluminum car wheels in the past. If you want to get the shine back to the aluminum you're going to have to put some elbow work into it and get dirty. Machine polishers are almost a requirement. You will need to get a buffing wheel and various different polishing compound grits. If the aluminum is just oxidized you can probably go with a real fine polishing type compound. You'll get black from all the compound and your boat will get messy without protection. Been there, done that, hate it.

You could take it off to get anodized but they would have to polish it and then anodize it. I'm guessing it may not be worth the cost to do this.
