I just found out a slip opened-up at the town dock! Looks like I won't have to trailer all season now. I rebuilt my outdrive last year and repainted it. I even bought new stickers......looks like new! I hate to paint it with anti-fouling paint. Has anyone found a replacement for that clear suff? What if I don't paint it and every now and then hit it with a scrub brush?

Tony, why don't you want to use the anti-fouling paint? Is there an enviornmental concern? I just painted a new welded on skeg with rustoleum primer & black paint & after the test run, two hours, it is back to the bare aluminum again. What's gonna' stick? Regards, Been.

Just don't wanna use the anti-fouling paint because of the way it is going to look.

It'll Look alot Better than All the Stuff that's going to Grow on it....................
Besides, You Won't see it till you pull the boat at the end of the season........
That'll be Nearly Daily, in the Ocean....... ;)

I keep mine on a mooring (North Shore Long Island) and antifouling is a MUST, you will regret not painting it with that as you will have all kinds of build up on it. If you don't use it often, even then there will be some growth, a quick run will prevent that.
Do you have bottom paint on your hull? That is also a must for keeping it in a slip.
If you do either one yourself, keep in mind that most antifouling paints are pretty toxic, so wear protection!!
As Bondo says, what will grow on it will look a lot worse than the dull black antifouling paint!

Dont get hung up on how great the newly painted drive looks Tony.If you put it in the waters of L.I without antifouling paint ,it will come out of the water looking a lot worse that the antifoul paint will make it look.At the moment,no clear that works good on the market. The only stuff that works looks like crap.I used the last can of the clear stuff I had this season so next season we are in the same boat.If you can find a way to spray the antifoul paint, you may be able to cleanly wet sand the crappy looking finish off next season if someone comes out with a clear that works. If you choose to go with these intentions,I would recommend that you dont scuff or prime your drive prior to antifoul painting.Did you use a clear depth coat over your finish????Charlie
