Re: Painting the hull
Sounds like a good price, maybe too good. I would make sure they will be using a good two part paint. There are lots of good ones so find out what they plan on using and ask some local body shops what they think and look on the net to see if it's quality stuff. As far as prep, it's okay to paint right over gelcoat that has been sanded to 320-400 grit if you don't have many dings that need to be addressed. If there are lots of repairs needed, then you will need a primer coat. Are you going with solid colors or metallic? If you are using solid colors, I'd use a single stage paint (no clear coat). If you are using metallic, I'd suggest a clear coat. If you don't use clear over metallic colors, you run the risk of discoloring the paint if you ever need to buff it later on. I recently sprayed my boat with Nason Ful-Cryl II, which is a two part automotive paint made by DuPont. Good stuff. Now, I'm not a painter or anything, so this is only my opinion, but I bought my paint supplies from a quality shop and this is pretty much what they told me. Good luck.
