I have never dealt with having to paint a hull before. Am going to have the hull of our Chaparral 2335 painted. Our boating is mainly in fresh water. Looking to have a dealer do it, best price I could get is $625.00 for a 23? boat. Is that a reasonable price? And what brand and/or type of paint should I make sure is used? What type of questions should I ask as to how they prep the surface before painting?

Sounds like a good price, maybe too good. I would make sure they will be using a good two part paint. There are lots of good ones so find out what they plan on using and ask some local body shops what they think and look on the net to see if it's quality stuff. As far as prep, it's okay to paint right over gelcoat that has been sanded to 320-400 grit if you don't have many dings that need to be addressed. If there are lots of repairs needed, then you will need a primer coat. Are you going with solid colors or metallic? If you are using solid colors, I'd use a single stage paint (no clear coat). If you are using metallic, I'd suggest a clear coat. If you don't use clear over metallic colors, you run the risk of discoloring the paint if you ever need to buff it later on. I recently sprayed my boat with Nason Ful-Cryl II, which is a two part automotive paint made by DuPont. Good stuff. Now, I'm not a painter or anything, so this is only my opinion, but I bought my paint supplies from a quality shop and this is pretty much what they told me. Good luck.

$625 to paint a 23' hull!!!

Ya that is a fabulous price, I would be stunned if you could beat that, just did my wifes car and I used base clear and just the paint/clear through a body shop buddy was $200.

Make sure you understood them right, that seems way to cheap to paint an entire boat, just sanding it would take probably 6-8 hours.

That sounds like a really good deal. I would make sure you ask more about what they are going to do for that price like others are saying. I have never called around to get my 21' done but if you really find someone to do it for that cheap. I am going to have to start checking around I would like to do mine in a year or less for that price I am not even going to do it myself. Let us know exactly what they are painting for that price, and what material they using.
