We're getting rid of the lovely 70's brown & beige color combination on our 78 Sport Fury, does anyone have a good paint choice and any easy(easier) steps for priming/painting. We've heard Interlux is a good choice.
Also is there somewhere to purchase the "rubber bumper" trim that divides the top from the hull. I say bumper since this is usually the trim that hits the dock (oops).

Thanks for any help! :D

T & J

Re: painting & trim question

I'd look into getting some International (Interlux) prekote primer and Toplac. Its more expensive than Brightside but its supposed to be a bit better? Tips: Use a short nap foam roller and tip it off with a foam brush. Get some international No.1 thinners and thin the toplac down a little bit before you apply it. Wipe down the hull with a cloth dampened with no.1 thinners before you paint it. You'll probably have to sand your hull before you apply the primer.

You can get rubrail kits from taco marine, they have lots of options.

Re: painting & trim question

In their February 2003 published evaluation, Powerboat Reports rated the Interlux Toplac and Epifanes Mono-Urethane as the best quality/value of high-gloss, one-part topside paints. It costs $10 (or $7.50 for members) to read the whole evaluation of all topside paints on-line, but they almost always tell you the ‘best’ products in the article’s intro for free. Personally, if I was considering something other than the two products mentioned above I would purchase this article and follow their recommendation(s).

http://www.powerboat-reports.com/pub/16_2/features/5301-1.html
