I painted the side Stripes of my boat with Interlux Perfection. I still have small brush marks on finish. Can they be buffed out with with rubbing compound or something else without wrecking the shine of it. First time working with paint and I do not want to ruin the finish. Thanks for any help.

Fortunately, yes, you can wet sand it with 400, then 600 and then 800 grit wet/dry paper. After that you should be able to buff it to a brilliant shine. The stuff is hard as heck if it's fully cured but still be careful not to over sand it.

Hmm yes it can be done but the new finish will not have the luster of the orignal finsih its a very tedious job..Be very careful cut the sags very slowly perfection is actually hair thin id doesnt take much to cut thourgh. Actually its less work and better results to just do it over..This time roll it out and reroll the stipple flat toss the brush. Use closed cell foam rollers..Home depot has them for 6 dollars a pack ..Just roll it out for 2 minutes striaght rolling them come back and roll out the stipple...leaving a extremely fine mat finish that will level like glass.

Picture's worth a thosand words??? First pic is trying to sand it out..Notice the reflection qualities.

And rolled and rolled true you have to sand out the orignal imperfections but you dont have to try and build the finish back up

This is Interlux Perfection TG ?? rolled on and not sanded buffed after ?

Just wondering..

Sanding and Buffing will affect the paint system .. better to recoat and leave it without the sanding buffing stage

The final finish is rolled out and re rolled for a final finish. Yes DR. the tape line's suck but the final finish is uncanny
for a novice painter..actually for even a highly skilled painter..the stuff still amazes me.

In essence you roll or lay out the paint for about two minutes then you go back and flatten out all the imperfection's with the same roller. It leaves a micro stiple that flatten's like glass. Granted it will take you 2-3 coating to get it or learn how to lay it out then come back and flatten it. But once you get the hang of it...kids play. The secret is both solvent level's and flattening time..that finsih was done with 15-18% 2333n a very even coat and one light re roll done...about 1-2 minutes between rolls.

Wow, that finish looks awesome Tail_gunner! I just did an aluminum boat with Rustoleum. The roll and roll with the same roller seemed to work the best. I tried roll and brush, but brushes seem to disturb the finish too much. Then the paint never levels itself completely off again. Then you get those ever so slight brush marks.

Great job again.
