I plan to do a little touch up painting on my 2005 2002 trophy over the winter. The hull color appears to be forest green. I have the compressor, sprayers, etc. Any advice on paint matching, etc?

Re: Painting

perfection makes a forest green, as much as I prefer buying my parts from iboats, they don't carry all the colors. Look at the other posts this a roll and brush operation, you probably don't have the safety equipment to spray.

Re: Painting

Here's a little reading from the Perfection web site via Interlux Paints.

As far as matching up that darker green I don't think you'll like the end results. Considering if the existing paint has been on there for awhile the fade factor needs to be addressed. Do as rockyrude recommends and take a good look at the roll and tip method. I've seen some pretty impressive back yard jobs done that way. Besides, you waste a lot of paint spraying - even with an HVLP system. Also consider painting the entire hull. As I mentioned you'll never get a new paint to match an older finish. Let us know what you decide to do and sent some pictures - you know, the before and after stuff.
Also, make certain that your existing finish is compatable with a two part paint. Not wise to directly top coat over a single part paint. :D

Re: Painting

I recommended the roll and tip because perfection is HIGHLY toxic without "haz mat " style spray protection, you will do permanent harm to yourself. Kinda defeats the purpose of the boat. I should have paid attention that you wanted to do touch up, I agree color match is gonna be tough.

sidenote; Be sure that the paint on the boat now is compatible with Perfection if you decide to use it. Perfection has strong solvents and the previously painted surface needs to be able to handle it. Perfection is a great paint but do some studying on the Interlux website before using it. You can see how Perfection made my old tug look in the link below. It was all roll/tipped and I couldn't be happier.
