I need to do some paint touching up after replacing my Transom. What kind of paint should I use. Do I need a special kind for boats or will regular exterior paints due? It's a bayliner Capri and I use it on salt water.

your boat is originally gel coat which is fantastic stuff and would be my first choice for small spot touchups. here is the link to iboats gel http://www.iboats.com/Boat-Parts-Ac...-searched.1--filter.prod_name?q=gel coa&s=sol

however if your going to paint, you will most likely need to paint the whole transom or the whole boat.

if by exterior paints your talking house paint. NO! that will not work. house paint would peel and blister on the first launch.

at the least, you will need a catalyzed or hardened paint. here is a link to woodonglass's writeup on catalyzed tractor paint http://forums.iboats.com/forum/boat...1961-lonestar-flamingo-splashed-w-pics/page16 it works for boats that are trailered

here are the traditional marine paints bottom paint for below the water line, top-side paint for above the water line http://www.iboats.com/Boat-Paint-Varnish/dm/cart_id.651756204--session_id.623127717--view_id.217337

If painting I'd use an epoxy primer and a dedicated marine paint. Probably one of the anti fouling paints.

Anti foul isnt needed on a trailered boat

For a couple days at a time over a weekend it isnt needed either.
