Been a while since I've posted. I searched but couldn't really find anything on this topic. I have a Mercruiser MR outdrive, went from forward at about 15 or 20 to panic stop, and went too far and into reverse. The engine died, started right back up and seemed to be ok under power, but my question is what to keep an eye on for potential damage. Outdrive gears, could I have spun the engine coupler or prop doing this? Thanks for any advice.

If your not hearing anything different then I don't think it's an issue. No chance of a engine coupler being damaged or spun prop hub from what you described. At the end of the season, drain the gear lube would be about it to check for anything

I would think water in engine via exaust would be the concern here.

It's possible but only if the exhaust flappers had been previously damaged. If there was water ingestion the engine would either hydolocked or run real crappy until the water was burned out, which should only take less then a minute once restarted.
