That sure sounds like a real dealers deal.It seems real enough to me.<br />You can go to e-bay and get the entire lower unit with everything on it inside a casing for about 50 bucks!

If you are going to spend that much, look for the part number that includes all gears with 3 dog clutch dog, number is in the service bulletins.

Re: part # 390970

Orginally, these gearcases had (what was call'd a "two dog" fwd gear, shifter and reverse gear in these gearcases. The fwd gear ran on a brass bushing- no bearing! For years you could buy just a orginal replacement fwd gear with bushing. Then they came out with a bulletin describing a "severe duty gear set" available if desired! Actually a three dog gear/shifter set-up. Three points of contact is better than two!! Later year gearcases came with three dog sets so you could buy the orginal two dog stuff, buy the three dog kit or buy individual componants. The three dog sets came with ,not a bushing, but a small needle bearing and a thrust bearing and thrust washer instead. Anyway, any of these componants are not exactly cheap! If your dealer had to special order you a part, just tell him to return it to Bomb. They'll take it back, you will just have to pay shipping and a slight handling fee. Then order up the correct parts needed from them. Should be no big thing!!

Re: part # 390970

I've looked into new gears on the same motor just the '72 version. The price you got is higher than what I remember (a few months ago) but not by much. The clutch dog was a seperate order and was about $65 I think. I remember thinking I'd have to spend about $350 to get the forward gear and the clutch dog. The reverse gear was quite a bit less than the forward.
