Hi All,

Looking for the Mercury part number of the CAN-bus harness adapter for a 4.3MPI (2006). From the service manual it looks like a 10 pin Packard? connector on one end. I'm looking at getting a new chart-plotter and it will display engine data, so thought it would be nice to connect up...

Thanks for the help in advance.

Chris......

Re: Part number for a Merc MPI harness adapter

Hi Chris, Finding smartcraft info can be somewhat difficult to do if you don't do it everyday, with that said, Rotorfixer has done a great job of describing it, so here is a copy of the info you need for the part numbers depending on if you plan on using junction boxes or not.

One thing to know is that there needs to be two resistors in the system (at each end of the "CAN BUS TRUNK")... if you have two junction boxes, you will need to have a resistor in each of them, if you have one junction box (up front for tach and speedo kit) you can buy a cable that has one resistor built in at the engine side (p/n 879981TX, X= the length ie. 879981T20 would be a 20ft cable) and then one termination resistor in the box up front. If you are only doing a system monitor, you can have no junction boxes and buy a cable that has a resistor built in to each end (p/n 879982TX, X= length). You will also need to plug all open connectors (on junction boxes) with weather caps, the amount that come in the kits should suffice. Source of above information,

The part number info can be confirmed in here, (post #6)

Cool  Thanks FT....

Read through all that lot... Looks very much like an 'off the shelf' RS485 system. Any idea what value the termination resistors are?

Chris....
EDIT: just found it, 120 ohms, same as RS485....
