I currently own a 1975 chrysler outboard 555hg. I am searching for a Tach to install on it. Cant seem to find any sites that have them in stock. Can I use any tach?

As far as installation, which wires off of my motor are for the tach?

You'll need to know how many poles the stator on your outboard has. I think there is a likely possibility that you have 20 poles (search around on this site and check). If so, that complicates things as nobody seems to make new tachs for 20 poles.

I found one for my Force on ebay for $50 shipped a month ago.

Oh... the wire on my force was purple. Check on your engine, and look for a small-ish (14ga or so) wire that comes off of the rectifier to the terminal block on your engine. If your are lucky, the terminal block is labeled.

Thanks for your response shooter. I will have to look at the wiring but I do believe I saw a purple one on there. Not sure about the stator but will look into it. I actually had a bigger problem arise when doing an overview and now have to fix that first.
