Partial floor replacement

1986 Searay Seville. Just happened to put my heel through the floor on Sunday. It was near the center driver's side on a corner (had a screw through it), so I think I'm lucky that I can replace a piece instead of the whole floor. When I lifted the carpet, the wood underneath was dry and brittle. Is it possible to replace just a part of the floor? What material is best?

Thanks.

Tip of the iceberg!! Find out what is below it and find out why that spot rotted. Patching a piece of floor is like putting a bandaid on your finger for a heart condition.

You must investigate below deck.

And don't just look. Tap around with the butt end of a screwdriver so you can "hear" the rotten spots.

Re: Partial floor replacement

Taj, My '88 Seville's floor rotted out in two distinct sections. The balance was unaffected, and under the floor was a layer of fiberglass which protected the foam. Unusual to say the least. I would look at the floor for spots where the chop gun either missed, or ran out of "chop". These will rot first. You may get lucky and only that small section needs to be replaced. Also, on my SeaRay, they put hardwood 2X4s under the floor with bolts and tee nuts. These bolts stuck through the follr and the seats were "nutted" to them. The holes in the floor allowed water to get under the floor and rot it out.

Hey Capt. Hook, Although these topics are related, you will get far more responses that are specific to your project if you start a new thread. There are a ton of people here that would love to help you out, but some people get upset when you hijack their thread.
